A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season

The winter break present a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing deep breathing to not arguing with loved ones. I hope you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you missed any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they must be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
