This young athlete has considerable online following
Kai Trump can count on plenty of well-known backers as she begins her first LPGA appearance on Thursday.
This teenage golfer, who happens to be connected to a former US president, was granted a sponsor's invitation to play at Florida's Annika event in Florida.
The former president, a passionate golfer, possesses numerous international courses and regularly matches against his granddaughter.
"He's pretty good. I shouldn't elaborate but we play some close matches," she revealed.
She mentioned that her grandfather, who won't be present, counseled her: "Simply don't get nervous."
"He basically suggested to play and have fun," she explained.
"To me, he's simply a normal grandpa. He won't be there for the tournament. He's occupied with world affairs, making him quite busy."
While still amateur, the golfer has participated in just three tournaments this year and maintains ranking 461 in AJGA listings.
However she's able to get advice from Tiger Woods, in a relationship with her mother.
"He stands as the greatest golfer in the world," Kai stated.
"Additionally, he's a superior individual. He told me to play, have fun, adapting to the flow."
The golfer will compete against some of top competitors in professional golf at this tournament, such as world number two Nelly Korda, England's Charley Hull, Lexi Thompson and 2023 champion Lilia Vu.
Officials commented that Kai's presence helps introduce the sport to new audiences, especially reaching the next generation.
Kai has a massive following and recently launched an exclusive apparel and wellness company.
The competition starts at 5:30 PM GMT.
